Champion of the State – Georgia

Georgia thinks working as a Project Officer with the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is “the best job I have had”.

In her role with the EPA, Georgia works on the state’s Container Deposit Scheme that reduces waste, incentivises rubbish collection and puts cash in the pockets of thousands of people throughout NSW. She is currently involved in the scheme’s expansion into wine bottles, which will be rolled out in the next few years.

Georgia, who has a legal background, is one of an army of Champions of the State working to make NSW cleaner. She does this by making the entire container-deposit system less complex for producers.

“It’s a complicated system,” she said. “We make things easier for companies when they come onboard.”

In addition, Georgia is “working on recyclability improvement” and making sure all container suppliers are involved in the scheme.

“Without me, they won’t get approved and they won’t be returned,” she said.
