It pays to be union, as EPA members discovered when their employers hit them with an unwanted Christmas surprise.
PSA intervention has spared staff at the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) a bleak Christmas.
Staff who received termination letters on 14 November were sent an email on 19 November, confirming the CEO’s commitment that no affected staff would be terminated before 7 January 2025.
“This extension was not due to the EPA’s goodwill but rather the result of the PSA’s intervention,” said Industrial Officer Michael Sinclair.
The Industrial Relations Commission criticised the EPA for its failure to consult with the union.
There will be a meeting today on the issue for PSA members employed at the EPA.
