The union representing the NSW public sector has supported the State Government’s moves to address the imbalance of funds allocated by Canberra.

Under the current arrangement, money raised by the goods and services tax (GST) is currently being disproportionately allocated to Western Australia. NSW Treasurer Danial Mookhey has been among the most vocal critics of the arrangement.

The NSW Government, and other states, have presser Treasurer Jim Chalmers (pictured) to find more funds for the states if the GST arrangement remains in place.

This comes as a report into growth finds that NSW’s population will grow by 3.6 million in the years up to 2066.

“Our members are the ones who will have to provide services for this growth in population,” said Stewart Little, General Secretary of the Public Service Association of NSW. “The State Treasurer is right to demand more be done to fund these services.”
