Employer Told To Consult With Workers

Northcott ordered to open dialogue.

A disability service provider has been accused of ignoring its obligation to consult.

Northcott has been neglecting its obligations under the Northcott Enterprise Agreement to consult with impacted employees and CPSU NSW when proposing workplace changes that may affect our members.

“Consultation is not a process that begins after decisions have already been made,” said Assistant General Secretary Troy Wright.

The CPSU NSW has formally raised concerns with Northcott regarding its consultation obligations under the Enterprise Agreement. The union has made it clear that Northcott must comply with the Agreement and properly consult with impacted members and CPSU NSW regarding any proposed changes. This includes providing timely information, engaging in meaningful discussions and ensuring the consultation process allows members and their union to provide feedback before decisions are finalised.

“The changes proposed to the company could have a significant impact on our members, so consultation is essential,” said Mr Wright.

Northcott is considering the closure of group homes including the Woodbine Group Home, and the Lavington Group Home.

The Liberal-National Government’s wholesale privatisation of NSW’s Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC) department as a direct service provider resulted in the transfer of approximately 14,000 public sector workers to private employers. Despite the massive disruption to the lives of our members who had to endure that period, the PSA, via the CPSU NSW name, is still representing members in the ageing and disability care sector.

“All CPSU NSW members have the right to be properly informed and consulted before any final decisions are made about your workplace,” said Mr Wright. “We remind members that if you do hear about any proposed changes in your workplace, talk to your delegate, or contact the CPSU NSW.”
