“I work with farmers to help them improve their productivity and sustainability,” she said. “It’s not formal learning, more upskilling farmers in an adult-education space. We do field days, workshops and other forums.

“We give farmers the chance to participate in peer-to-peer learning, where they exchange ideas.

“We also respond from the animal- services end, supporting people and their livestock in natural disasters such as floods and bushfires.

“I like the diversity of the people I work with. I am getting out and dealing with some lovely people who are doing their best to feed everybody.

“Our agency has responsibility for agriculture, biosecurity, natural resource management and emergency response.”
