Women prepare for next term.
A new chapter has begun for the PSA Women’s Council, with a newly elected Executive team stepping into their roles for the 2026-2028 term.
Entering the new term, the council aims to build on their legacy, with a strong focus on domestic violence, reproductive leave, women’s housing, and further campaigning.
Leanne Smith has been re-elected into her third term as Chair, continuing her long standing commitment to the council.
“Bettering the rights and working conditions for our women, is what our council is about,” said Ms Smith.
The fight for domestic violence justice continues for the Women’s Council in support of the PSA NSW Domestic Violence campaign.
“We need to keep focused and keep pushing for what is important,” said Ms Smith. The campaign urges NSW to rebuild a publicly delivered, fully accountable, domestic and family violence (DFV) system.
It is time for NSW DV fragmented model to be remodeled, “A coordinated response to DV will save lives,” added General Secretary Stewart Little.
For the Women’s Council, continuing to advocate for meaningful reform is critical to ensure women experiencing DFV receive the support and protection they need.
The newly elected executive council members are also passionate about the need for paid workplace leave granted to those who are managing or receiving treatment for reproductive health issues.
Reproductive leave provides support for staff and assists them in navigating situations of menstruation, menopause, IVF, and pregnancy, without sacrificing income or job security. The council hopes that with this being implemented, the wellbeing of women staff is overall improved.
