DFSVC Report Backs PSA Stance

Commission demands government action on violence.

Echoing a campaign by the PSA, the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commission’s (DFSVC’s) 2026 Yearly Report demands all levels of government take a central role in tackling domestic and family violence (DFV).

Tabled by Federal Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek in September 2026, the Yearly Report’s first recommendation is that the issue of domestic and family violence requires a “whole-of-government” response.

“The PSA wholeheartedly agrees with this recommendation, and urges the Minns Labor Government to follow the report’s recommendation,” said PSA General Secretary Stewart Little. “As outlined in the union’s DV Needs Public Services campaign, too often people fleeing violence in the home are required to negotiate a confusing mix of non-profit organisations, with the quality and availability of services dependent on a perverse postcode lottery.

“Only those in the Western Sydney, Nepean and Blue Mountains region have access to a comprehensive government-run support service.

The PSA demands the public sector should be at the forefront of service delivery for those affected by domestic and family violence.

The DFSVC says family and domestic violence “cannot be addressed by a single portfolio, agency or jurisdiction” and that governments need to “coordinate services”.
It says the issue needs a coordinated response through health, education, justice, housing, child protection, immigration, social security, childcare, aged care, disability support and many other areas of government.

Mr Little welcomed the report, saying it justified the hard work the PSA CPSU NSW had put into bringing this issue to the attention of governments.
