Go national: Join the ACTU Retired Unionists Network

Once a unionist, always a unionist.

As well as signing up to the PSA CPSU NSW Retired Associates, members leaving work have the chance to link up with like-minded former union members nationwide.

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) runs the Retired Unionists Network (RUN), which keeps people who have left the workforce active in the movement that did so much for them while they were employed.

RUN connects with retired activist groups right around the country. It aims to provide opportunities for retired union members to participate in and contribute to the creation of campaigns in the movement. These can be national or state campaigns and also campaigns driven by and from RUN about issues important to members of the network.

The group’s lobbying was part of the ACTU’s successful campaign on payday superannuation contributions.

RUN meets monthly online over Zoom, generally on the fourth Thursday of the month from 2:00pm-4:00pm. It meets from February to November. These meetings feature a guest speaker and all retired unionists are welcome to attend and participate.

“Getting involved in RUN is a great way to meet other activists and keep up with what is going on in the union movement,” said PSA CPSU NSW President Nicole Jess. “It provides an opportunity to socialise with like-minded people and connect to campaigns in your local area about the issues you care about.”
