The PSA’s campaign at the 2023 state election to cut NSW’s dependency on contractors has seen the Minns Government save almost half a billion dollars.
Announcing the savings, NSW Acting Treasurer and Minister for Finance Courtney Houssos said the state’s budget for consultants, contractors and labour hire had been slashed.
In a statement issued Saturday, Houssos said her administration “has delivered more than $450 million in savings on external consultants and individual contractors in its first full year in government”.
PSA General Secretary Stewart Little said this proved the new government had listed to his union’s demands.
“Not only does this help NSW keep its excellent credit rating, it means there is more available for permanent public sector roles,” he said. “It shows that our campaigning was not only good for members, it was good for the taxpayers of NSW.”
