Osara On Hand For The PSA CPSU NSW

A member’s story.

When PSA member Cady learned that her mother’s cancer had returned, she turned to Osara Health, a service available to members of her union.

“I heard about this program through my union around the time that my mother found out her previous cancer had come back and metastasised,” she said. “I was her primary carer through this time. Unlike her previous cancer treatment which was fairly straightforward, this time round we knew it was going to be terminal but was also throwing out a plethora of difficult side effects that impacted her quality of life.

“Symptom management involved trials of medications and procedures that also impacted a separate long term and previously well-managed medical condition and threw it off kilter. At the same time, every time she left hospital for home – after being in bed for days or weeks – she was considerably weaker than when she left.”

The PSA CPSU NSW has subscribed to Osara Health’s programs aimed at people with cancer or people, like Cady, caring for someone with cancer.

“Living with cancer is a journey filled with emotional and physical challenges, and patients often require holistic support to navigate these difficulties,” said PSA CPSU NSW President Nicole Jess.

Osara Health provides a free dedicated health coach and a symptom tracking app to stay on top of the patient journey.

Osara Health’s caregiver coaching program provides members with essential tools to thrive in their critical roles.

“I contacted one of the Osara Health Coaches and it was a huge relief that when I mentioned a side effect or symptom he had a very clear idea of what that meant,” said Cady.

“I didn’t need to explain everything.

“I am very grateful for this service, caring for someone with cancer on top of work and home is wearing.”

Ms Jess said Osara Health is one way the PSA CPSU NSW helps its members.

“Remember, help is always available to our members and their families with confidential access to both programs at any time,” she said. “Make great use of our partnership with Osara Health to prioritise your health.”
