PSA Wins Back Unpaid Laundry Allowance For General Assistants

PSA campaign pays dividends for essential workers in schools.

Thanks to their union’s vigilance, General Assistants (GAs) in NSW schools have started receiving their back-paid uniform allowance.

In 2022, the PSA notified the Department of Education that GAs had not received the uniform allowance owed to them under the Award, which stipulates that employees whose duties require specialised or protective clothing receive such a payment.

The Department will make retrospective payments dating back to the beginning of the 2017 school year. This meets the six-year limitations period for taking action to recover arrears of income.
