Union helps with the costs of education.
The PSA CPSU NSW is inviting members to apply for its two scholarships for 2026: the PSA CPSU NSW Scholarship and the Kris Cruden Scholarship.
The 2026 PSA CPSU NSW Scholarship is available at any Australian university in any course and is restricted to students entering the first year of a full-time course.
It is available to children of members of the PSA CPSU NSW at the time of application, who have been continuous financial members for the previous five years.
The scholarship will have a value of $2000 per annum and will be awarded in the first instance for one year and re-awarded annually for a maximum period of three years.
A scholar’s tenure shall be subject to a satisfactory report as to their progress and conduct.
The Scholarship will be awarded on results obtained in the 2025 Higher School Certificate Examination and Assessment or equivalent and will consider whether or not the applicant is the holder of a scholarship or traineeship.
Subject to the provisions above, the highest marks and assessment and/or aggregate will be the deciding factor in the award.
The PSA CPSU NSW established the Kris Cruden Scholarship in recognition of the legacy of Kris Cruden, who was an Industrial Manager at the PSA and a mentor to many in the union movement. After completing her tertiary studies as a mature-aged student who continued employment as she completed university, Ms Cruden achieved so much in her career as a trade unionist, Labor Party member and as Mayor of Leichhardt.
The Kris Cruden Scholarship is for women aged 35 years and over who have been in the workforce and are commencing tertiary study. It is restricted to women members of the PSA CPSU NSW who, at the time of application, have been continuous financial members for the previous five years.
It has a value of $2000 per annum and will be awarded initially for one year and, subject to a satisfactory report on progress and conduct, awarded each year for a maximum of three years.
The Kris Cruden Scholarship will be awarded to a female member selected by the Executive based on factors including, socio-economic circumstances, academic potential, personal motivation, commitment to union values and commitment to studies.
Applications for both scholarships close at 5:00pm on Friday 27 February 2026. Application forms are available at the PSA and CPSU NSW websites.
