Special Constables win back pay

Meal allowance shortfall has been rectified.

PSA members have received back pay thanks to their union fighting on behalf of Special Constables.

In 2024 the Industrial Relations Commission handed down a determination in a Work Value Case for NSW Police Force Special Constables run by the PSA. As part of that ruling, Special Constables were awarded Overtime Meal Allowance rates that were set by the Australian Tax Office (ATO).

Subsequently, the PSA and Delegates consistently raised the issue of these Overtime Meal Allowance Claims still being paid at the existing rate of $10.75 for the first, and any subsequent meal allowances paid at the rate of $9.95 over the previous two years.

The PSA has recently been advised that an audit of these payments has been conducted via the SMG Command to identify staff who are eligible for back payment.
