The Public Service Association of NSW (PSA) has received widespread coverage for its demands that State Government do more to combat domestic and family violence (DFV).

Reports on the Nine Network, the ABC and the 10 Network featured footage of General Secretary Stewart Little telling interviewers the state can not solve the DFV crisis simply by putting more offenders in prison.

After tightening bail laws on people arrested for DFV offences, the State Government has seen an increase in the number of inmates on remand in its gaols. It has announced it will reopen the Dawn de Loas facility and increase capacity at Parklea.

While the PSA supports these moves, it said the State Government needs to spend more on prevention, including replicating the government-run Family Violence Service in Mount Druitt throughout the state.

This is the centrepiece of the union’s DV Needs Public Services campaign.
