Outdated IT equipment is kept out of landfill.
The PSA/CPSU NSW has kept old computer equipment out of the waste stream.
“We have responsibly disposed old desktop computers and phones without resorting to dumping it into landfill,” said ICT Manager Dave Wiseman.
“The company taking our computer equipment not only refurbishes the items for reuse, it also provides learning opportunities to disadvantaged groups.
“Most importantly, the e-waste is not being exported to developing countries with lower labour and environmental standards.”
Old PSA/CPSU NSW phones and tablets will be donated to organisations supporting people escaping domestic violence situations.
Other IT equipment is being donated to Aboriginal communities in northern NSW that were affected by the recent floods.
“Waste can be repurposed with a bit of effort,” said Mr Wiseman. “Our stuff gets to where it needs to go.”
