CPSU NSW takes up fight for prison staff.

Negotiations for a new Enterprise Agreement at the privately run correction centre in the Clarence region have commenced.

“The CPSU NSW is in talks with the prison’s operator, Serco, about a new Enterprise Agreement,” said Industrial Officer Thane Pearce. “The last time we went into negotiations with Serco, we managed to stand firm until management gave us a better offer than what was first tabled.

“Officers walked off the job for a total of 72 hours [pictured below] to show they were serious about getting a better deal from a global outsourcing company that makes a fortune from operations such as Clarence Correctional Centre.”

Despite the improved pay offer in 2022, Officers at Clarence Correctional Centre are still paid less than staff in most prisons in Australia.

The takeover of Junee Correctional Centre in April 2025, and probable return of state control over Parklea Gaol in 2026 will mean Clarence is likely to be the only private prison in NSW.

The CPSU NSW has issued a log of claims with a three-year timetable for pay rises, plus increases in payments such as uniform allowances.
