Priorities outlined for Pride Council

Busy term ahead.

Marking four years since its establishment, the PSA Pride Council has entered the 2026-2028 term, eager to support, and empower LGBTQIA+ union members.

“We strive to create spaces for people to feel welcomed, safe and respected to be their authentic selves,” said Pride Council Vice-Chair Emma Pearce.

In August, the Pride Council held a meeting, addressing an action plan for the term and defining their statement of scope with the inclusion of strategic priorities and priority actions.

The council has outlined several strategic priorities to enable positive change throughout the union.

Priorities include advocating for industrial, professional, social and workplace rights of LGBTQIA+ workers and providing advice and recommendations to the union in relation to policies, campaigns, and workplace issues that have an effect on them.

The council will look at strategies to support those experiencing discrimination, harassment, bullying or inequitable treatment.

“The establishment of these strategic priorities from the Pride Council allows for the improvement of LGBTQIA+ staff wellbeing and overall workplace culture,” said PSA CPSU NSW President Nicole Jess.

The PSA CPSU NSW Pride Council plans to formally approach politicians and seek engagement with the Council to discuss LGBTQIA+ issues that concern our members.

“We have high hopes for the PSA Pride Council to participate in the upcoming Mardi Gras, and associated events,” said Ms Jess. “This provides an opportunity for our members to celebrate, and for the PSA to publicly show our support to the LGBTQIA+ community.”
