Members are able to get protection at work.
Special Constables have been urged to get full protection at work by signing up to the Justice Legal Fund.
“Special Constables play a vital role in the NSW Police Force, facing challenging and potentially dangerous situations while protecting members of the Community and their colleagues,” said PSA President Nicole Jess.
“To support our members in the Justice sector, including Special Constables, the PSA offers a comprehensive legal fund.
“The PSA recommends that all Special Constable members join the Legal Fund for protection beyond industrial relations matters. As body-worn cameras become standard and protest activities increase, your exposure to vulnerable situations grows. Now is the time to join the Justice Legal Fund.”
The legal fund, based on a model used by Prison Officers, covers members in high-risk situations with enhanced legal services, including:
- Legal defence for work-related criminal allegations
- Support for claims under the Victims Right and Support Act 2013
- Representation in Coronial Inquiries where member and employer interests differ
- Protection during commissions of inquiry or tribunals that could impact members
PSA Members working in the Justice sector can join the Justice Sector Legal Fund for just $2 per week. Fees are fully tax deductible, along with a member’s union fees.
Members looking to join the fund can download membership forms at the PSA website: www.psa.asn.au
