Michael works for Transport for NSW (TfNSW) as an Operations Coordinator, at the St Helena Tunnel near Byron Bay.
“I work at a place called the RTOC, or Regional Transport Operations Centre,” said this Champion of the State. “It is a control centre that operates the St Helena, Cudgen and Tugun Tunnels on the M1 Pacific Motorway.
“We deal with a wide variety of issues on the motorways, some of these include overheight vehicles, breakdowns, road maintenance support and traffic congestion.
“We also support responses to bush fires, floods and other state emergencies outside of greater Sydney. We are there to support the people of NSW at all times of the day and night, including Christmas Day.
“I’ve always liked hands-on operational roles. I like how no two days are the same, things are dynamic, challenging, as well as the need to problem solve and find solutions.
“I enjoy this type of challenge.”
