The PSA CPSU NSW training agenda for 2025 includes a mix of regional, Sydney-based and online courses.
“We want our members to get the most from being part of the PSA CPSU NSW, and training is a major benefit from being in the union,” said Assistant General Secretary Troy Wright (pictured at a training session). “Most of the Awards and Enterprise Agreements that cover our members include paid time off to attend union training.
“If you are unsure if you are eligible for union training leave, you can check with your manager or our Member Support Centre on 1800 772 679.”
Courses include the popular Role of the Delegate, which gives members an insight into the people representing the union in the workplace and courses specifically on issues facing women in the workplace
“Running courses in the regions means members don’t need to take time away from families and go into Sydney,” said Glenn Duncan, who conducts many courses.
The union also runs Lunch and Learn sessions on specific subjects.
“If you feel your workplace has a specific issue that needs to be addressed, we can run a Lunch and Learn on it,” said Mr Duncan. “As these sessions are run through lunch breaks, members don’t need to apply for union training leave or travel to a training venue. It can all take place online or in their workplace.”
Work Health and Safety Officer Marko Petrovic will be taking courses on members wanting information on safer workplaces.
“In addition, we will be running courses if members want to get Health and Safety Representative [HSR] accreditation through their union,” said Mr Petrovic.
The course timetable will be regularly updated on both the PSA and CPSU NSW websites. The sites also have a description of each course.
“We encourage as many members as possible to enrol,” said Mr Duncan. “A well-trained workplace is a better-organised workplace.”
