A story in the Daily Telegraph has highlighted the PSA’s demands for better safety equipment for Fisheries Officers.

In what has become an annual story at the Lunar New Year the newspaper has covered the illegal abalone trade, much of which ends up in Chinese restaurants.

The story took a quote from Assistant General Secretary Troy Wright, who highlighted the union’s long battle to improve Officers’ safety with better equipment.

“The story highlighted the involvement of criminal gangs in the trade,” said Mr Wright to Red Tape. “It is vital our Officers have safety equipment sufficient to deal with these organisations that will stop at nothing to protect their rackets.”
