The previous Liberal-National Government’s wholesale privatisation of NSW’s Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC) Separtment as a direct service provider resulted in the transfer of approximately 14,000 public sector workers to private employers. Despite the massive disruption to the lives of union members who had to endure that period, the PSA is still representing members in the ageing and disability care sector under the CPSU NSW banner.

Recently, one of the private providers, Northcott has been neglecting its obligations under the Northcott Enterprise Agreement to consult with impacted employees and CPSU NSW when proposing workplace changes that may affect our members.

“Consultation is not a process that begins after decisions have already been made,” said CPSU NSW General Secretary Stewart Little.

CPSU NSW has formally raised concerns with Northcott regarding its consultation obligations under the Enterprise Agreement. The union is demanding Northcott comply with the Agreement and properly consult with impacted members and CPSU NSW regarding any proposed changes.

“This includes providing timely information, engaging in meaningful discussions and ensuring the consultation process allows members and their union to provide feedback before decisions are finalised,” said Mr Little. “The changes proposed to the company could have a significant impact on our members, so consultation is essential. Northcott is considering the closure of group homes including the Woodbine Group Home, and the Lavington Group Home.”
