Reports an accused killer has to send NSW Police a selfie every day as part of bail conditions has been described by PSA CPSU NSW General Secretary Stewart Little as a yet another failure of privatising government services.
The Daily Telegraph reports that an accused murderer was required to submit a photo of himself every hour between 8:00am and 8:00pm, as well as keeping his mobile phone’s location settings on. These conditions, described by police as “bizarre”, have been put in place as an outsourced monitoring company, BailSafe, has ceased trading.
“Outsourcing companies such as BailSafe should never have been part of the state’s monitoring system,” said Mr Little. “We need a well-resourced, accountable Community Corrections system that is entirely run by the excellent NSW Public Sector.
“We have long said privatisation hurts everyone. This case shows that these outsourcing firms leave us worse off even when they are no longer operating.”
