Junee Gaol has been in public hands since the evening shift on 31 March. In addition to higher wages and better staffing for the Officers and staff at the prison, the integration into the state-wide correctives system has seen other benefits.
The prison bakery, which teaches inmates work skills, is now supplying products to all gaols in the NSW south.
In addition, the jail’s integration means it is now part of the more comprehensive Justice Health NSW system.
“These are just two examples of how placing a gaol into public hands improves outcomes for all,” said PSA CPSU NSW General Secretary Stewart Little.
