Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has agreed to the PSA’s proposal for an Expression of Interest (EOIs) to all Transport Senior Service Managers (TSSMs), regardless of their branch or division, before any further cuts to Award staff.
TfNSW had originally planned to run this process branch by branch. Instead, the EOI would allow TfNSW to understand what savings could be found from those TSSMs that would like to exit the employer, before starting consultation on branch design.
“This significantly minimises the potential adverse effect on Award employees, while allowing TSSMs who want to take advantage of an early exit to do so,” said PSA CPSU NSW General Secretary Stewart Little.
The PSA understands that information on this process was due to be distributed on 8 August 2025. However, another union is opposed to this measure to reduce Award cuts for reasons that were not communicated to other stakeholders.
TfNSW’s proposed cuts to staff come at a time when the agency’s top-heavy executive structure has been criticised by bodies such as the PSA.
“The fact is there are still more than 1000 Senior Executives in Transport, which is more than Health, Education and Justice combined,” said Mr Little. “If the NSW Government wants to find inefficiencies and savings, it needs to explain why it believes TfNSW needs 25 per cent of the total number of Senior Executives across the Government Sector.
“And why is it cutting workers’ positions before adequately reviewing and reducing the number of Senior Executives across Transport?”
